    Two New Zealanders have been killed in an avalanche, while backcountry skiing in Japan's northern island of Hokkaido


    Japanese media report they were part of a group of six foreigners, skiing on Mt Yotei .

    Our Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is aware of what's happened.

    A spokesperson has confirmed the New Zealand Embassy has offered consular support to the families of those involved.

    No further comment will be provided due to privacy reasons.
