    One person has died after a house fire in Hurunui, in Canterbury


    Fire crews were deployed from several surrounding areas to the Karaka Road property at about 10:50 last night.

    The 20 by 10 metre home was well ablaze by the time crews arrived.

    State Highway 7 was closed while the fire was brought under control, and a scene guard remained in place overnight.

    Police and fire investigators are at the property this morning, looking into the cause of the fire.
