Motorists are being asked to avoid two South Island highways after serious crashes - one fatal

State Highway 8 is closed between Clyde and Cromwell after a three-vehicle crash involving two trucks and a car, that's left one person dead and another with minor injuries.

Meanwhile, State Highway 6 near Wakefield in Tasman is now back open to one lane, after a car collided with a power pole.
