Robert Downey Jr.'s kids "didn't care" about his Oscar win

The 59-year-old star won his first Academy Award, Best Supporting Actor, for his role in 'Oppenheimer', last month but the reactions from Exton, 12, and nine-year-old Avri meant he couldn't feel too self-important afterwards.

Asked if things have been different since he won the award, Robert's wife Susan Downey told 'Entertainment Tonight': "Not really. What's great is you win an Oscar, and the next morning, the kids are still giving him grief. Like, they don't care, you know? It's a great humility."

The 'Iron Man' actor - who also has 30-year-old Indio with his first wife Deborah Falconer - acknowledged he had enjoyed a "great season" after scooping a string of prizes, including a Golden Globe, a SAG Award and a BAFTA, for 'Oppenheimer' but the key to keeping things stable is to ignore the chatter and stay focused on work, including his role in new TV miniseries 'Sympathizer'.

He said: "I'll say this, it was a great season. And the best antidote to staying out of ego and all that is being involved in a project like this, like 'Sympathizer'.

"I think [it's] an important piece of storytelling, so I'm fortunate."

Robert has multiple roles in the show and joked he was "in excellent company" in the scenes he had with himself, but is staying humble about his chances of winning an Emmy in the same year he won an Oscar.

He said of the potential double win: "Great. I think Kieu [Chinh] and Sandra [Oh] are the ones to keep an eye on, they're both fantastic in this.

"The whole cast is exceptional. In fact, I played multiple characters just so I wouldn't get lost in the shuffle of all this Vietnamese talent."

When he won his Oscar, the 'Tropic Thunder' actor praised his wife in a funny and touching speech.

He said: "I'd like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy. In that order.

"I'd like to thank my veterinarian, I mean wife, Susan Downey over there. She found me a snarling rescue pet and loved me back to life, that's why I'm here, thank you."
