A man's been rescued after being trapped six metres underground at a Central Interceptor construction site in Auckland

A man's been rescued after being trapped six metres underground at a Central Interceptor construction site in Auckland

Seven fire trucks responded to reports of a person trapped on Haverstock Road just after 9 this morning.

St John have taken him to hospital in a serious condition.

Watercare says he was stuck between a sheet pile and a beam while working inside a six-metre deep concrete chamber on the Central Interceptor Project - a 1.2 billion dollar giant wastewater pipe.

They say the site will remain closed for the rest of the day and WorkSafe has been notified.
