    The pedestrian killed after being hit by a vehicle in Helena Bay, near Whangarei, was an off-duty policewoman


    Police say the vehicle hit the pedestrian after coming off the road and hitting a power pole, at about 3:15pm yesterday.

    Family and colleagues have been paying tributes online, describing as a mother, grandmother and an instrumental member of the Te Tai Tokerau community.

    Another person received minor injuries from the collision.
