Painful living costs may be driving down concern about climate change

Painful living costs may be driving down concern about climate change

An Ipsos survey shows the number of Kiwis who say we'd be failing future generations by not acting on climate change has dropped nine percent on 2022.

Its managing director says 33 countries were surveyed - and the drop in concern is a trend in countries with higher inflation levels.

Carin Hercock says people tend to respond to pressing issues and climate change is often viewed as a long-term problem.

She says it increased as an issue during Cyclone Gabrielle - when people saw the impact of climate change in the present.
