The Government's cracking down on law and order - with a 1.9 billion dollar investment in corrections

The Government's cracking down on law and order - with a 1.9 billion dollar investment in corrections

Among the priorities is a commitment to delivering 685 new frontline staff, including 470 corrections officers.

Criminal defence lawyer John Munro says staffing shortages have created an access to justice issue - with lawyers struggling to get into prisons to see their clients.

But he says recruiting could be difficult and would require investment.

Munro says it's a tough and dangerous job, that doesn't pay enough - so money will need to be put towards incentivising officers.
