Auckland water provider Watercare is more than doubling its flood recovery work in West Auckland

Last year's severe weather events caused extensive damage in the Waitakere Ranges, with landslips taking out water mains, wastewater pipes and causing issues in dam catchments.

Asset upgrades and renewals manager Suzanne Lucas says they've upped the number of crews working in the western dam catchments from two to five.

She says the Waitakere area provides about 20-percent of the raw water supply for Auckland.

Lucas says they're trying to get as much of it protected as possible before they stop work over winter.
