Labour says the Government's plan to increase teachers, won't go anywhere near as far as what they did

Labour says the Government's plan to increase teachers, won't go anywhere near as far as what they did

The Government's announced $53-million to recruit and train 1500 teachers over the next four years.

Labour's education spokesperson Jan Tinetti, says when in Government, they added 1300 teachers in 12 months.

Tinetti says the Government is picking and choosing education targets based on what they think is easiest to achieve -- and refusing to commit to a target on ending the teacher shortage.

She says there's 80 pathways to becoming a teacher, and the announcement does nothing to ensure consistency across programmes.
