One person has died, after their car hit a power pole in the Tasman district

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Selwyn Street and Abel Tasman Drive at Pohara, just before 1am.

Police have confirmed the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle died at the scene.

The Serious Crash Unit is working to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
