A new study's examining why some GPs can't take new patients

A report in today's Medical Journal, has found it's mainly due to a lack of doctors and nurses, not having enough money to cover the costs and high workloads.

Researchers have spoken with general practice professionals, who suggest hiring more from overseas, training more students and closing the pay gap between GPs and hospital staff.

Co-author Jacqueline Cumming says there's also an issue of money.

She says the levels of funding that's put into primary healthcare isn't sufficient - and won't get better any time soon.
