The Immigration Minister is increasing the number of seasonal workers coming into the country

The Immigration Minister is increasing the number of seasonal workers coming into the country

Changes to the Recognised Seasonal Employer Scheme, include increasing the worker cap by 1,250 to 20-thousand-750, and lifting the pause on accommodation cost increases.

Employers can now average out workers' minimum 30 hours a week over four weeks, and they need to pay experienced staff only, 10-percent above the minimum wage.

Immigration Minister Erica Stanford says it's not about taking jobs from New Zealanders.

She says there needs to be a work force for regions, where people refuse to make the short term move.
