The mining sector's welcoming the Government's draft list of minerals deemed essential to the country's economy

The mining sector's welcoming the Government's draft list of minerals deemed essential to the country's economy

It includes 35 minerals in demand internationally and facing high risk of supply disruption both here and overseas.

Once finalised, the list will contribute to work on international supply chains.

Straterra chief executive Josie Vidal says it's disappointing to see criticism of the list, as mining plays a valuable role in New Zealand.

She says the country needs these minerals for its future - and mining creates much-needed jobs.
