A warning to Canterbury renters, to stay vigilant when looking for rentals

People are being scammed when looking for a rental, with scammers posing as landlords or real estate agents before asking for payments.

Victims are targeted through different platforms.

Senior Sergeant Roy Appleby says it's not a new scam, and there's not one that's more problematic than others.

He says there's a series of scams, all designed to achieve the same thing.
