Stats NZ has revealed the GDP contracted 0.2 percent in the three months to June.
It follows 0.1 percent growth in the March quarter.
Despite the overall GDP fall, more than half of the industries actually increased.
Manufacturing had the largest increase of 1.9 percent, its best rise in three years.
Manufacturing New Zealand's Executive Director Joshua Tan says it's good to see, considering the sectors been in downturn for two years.
He says a good reason for the increase is the return of manufacturers to Hawke's Bay since Cyclone Gabrielle.
