A driver - who tried fleeing police on foot and escaping into another car - is due in the Gisborne District Court

At about 2.10, police activated sirens and lights behind a man of interest - who failed to stop on Ormond Road.

A short time later, his vehicle was spiked on Tyndall Road - and he abandoned it in an alleyway before making a getaway in a second car on Gladstone Road.

It was spotted on Cobden Street at about 2:45 - and he was taken into custody without further incident.

A 25-year-old man is charged with failing to stop and dangerous driving.
