Motorcyclists are being urged to have the right gear before hitting the roads

Motorcyclists are being urged to have the right gear before hitting the roads

Police have been dealing with a series of serious crashes involving riders, with several not wearing helmets.

Inspector Tony Wakelin says it's heartbreaking telling loved ones someone has been seriously hurt or killed -- even more so when the situation might have been preventable.

He says riders need to take a few seconds to get gear on and properly fitted, as it could prevent a serious injury, lifelong disability or death.
