An urge for anyone planning to set off fireworks this Guy Fawkes' Day to let pet-owning neighbours know well in advance

The Veterinary Association says cats and dogs have cats and dogs often get anxious and try to flee during displays, resulting in increased risk of injury and trauma.

It comes as more than 20-thousand pet owners sign a petition to ban public sales, with over 19-thousand pets also adding their paw prints.

Spokesperson Sally Cory, says pet owners need time to prepare their furry friends.

She says they can make sure curtains are closed, pets are inside and in a quiet place with somewhere to hide, with some pets even needing calming medications.
