The Government says comprehensive welfare reform will help tackle the rising number of beneficiaries

The Government says comprehensive welfare reform will help tackle the rising number of beneficiaries

It's unveiling a new scheme, which includes expanding needs assessments to identify challenges holding people back.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says eight-thousand more people joined the Jobseeker Benefit in the past quarter.

He expects the Jobseeker Benefit will also come down as the economy improves - after increasing by more than 8000 in the past quarter.

Luxon says years of high inflation and interest rates under the previous Government has taken a toll.
