Volunteers are working to support the people of Vanuatu, as the devastation continues into Christmas

Volunteers are working to support the people of Vanuatu, as the devastation continues into Christmas

Last week's 7.3 earthquake flattened much of the capital Port Vila.

Heavy rain since has seen landslides, with more extreme weather expected to worsen conditions.

Save The Children's Lavinia Mahit is there and is urging New Zealanders to contribute to their earthquake appeal, as rescue efforts take a grim turn.

She says now it's about recovering bodies from the rubble, rather than searching for survivors.

The official death toll stands at 12.
