A man who allegedly stole a vehicle at knife-point, drove dangerously through northern Auckland and rammed a police car has been found hiding in a tree

Police attempted to stop a vehicle, which had earlier been taken in Henderson, in Red Beach yesterday evening to no avail.

The Eagle helicopter managed to track the vehicle in the Waitemata North area, before it rammed a patrol car in Warkworth.

The driver fled into nearby bush on foot, and was found up a tree at a rural property around 2 this morning.

He suffered a minor dog bite after resisting arrest and was taken to hospital.

A 35-year-old man is due to appear in court today, facing numerous charges.
