    Julia Stiles is "rooting for" her son to have a career away from showbiz

    The 43-year-old actress - who has Strummer, seven, Arlo, two, and a 13 month old whose name has not been announced publicly with husband Preston Cook - has made her directorial debut with the film 'Wish You Were Here' and revealed that while her eldest came to visit her sons set, she cannot envisage him going into the same insturty.


    She told People: "My youngest two are too young, probably, but my older son actually came to the set of 'Wish You Were Here'. I thought he was going to be bored to tears, but he was riveted and he watched the monitor.

    "It means so much to me because he was able to see what Mommy does for work and that it's not just like getting my hair and makeup done.

    "That it was a leadership role. That makes me so happy because when he was younger he would come to sets... the easiest way as an actress is to have him come to the hair and makeup trailer.

    "I don't think he will [go into showbusiness], not yet. He's really into science and I'm rooting for that."

    The ' 10 Things I Hate About You' star also explained that when she read the novel 'Wish You Were Here' - which is by Renée Carlino and centres on a woman who has a whirlwind romance with a terminally ill man - that the whole thing "broke her heart" but she was also able to find the humour in it as well.

    She said: "When I read Wish You Were Here, it broke my heart - but that good cry where you are laughing through tears, and you're reminded how amazing life can be.

    "[The movie] is kind of two versions of a love story: the one they actually have and the one they dream about."
