The Ministry of Health is proposing a change to euthanasia laws after the assisted death of a patient in a farm paddock

The Ministry of Health is proposing a change to euthanasia laws after the assisted death of a patient in a farm paddock

The family of a severely ill Hamilton resident were put in a difficult position when a rest home was completely against the man dying at the facility.

The family arranged for him to be driven to a friend's property and he received the lethal dose from a doctor in the back of a ute.

The doctor, who can't be legally named, says rest homes and other facilities should be required to allow patients to die on the premises.

After reviewing the law, the Ministry of Health agreed, and is hoping to see it changed.
