A new brain tumour register is hoping to better localise research to New Zealand

A new brain tumour register is hoping to better localise research to New Zealand

Auckland University researcher Dr Thomas Park has set up the register, to provide information of all brain tumor patients in New Zealand.

His team have received about 30-thousand-dollars to establish it, but he says millions more will be needed to created detailed records.

Park says it would also give a snapshot of how tumours affect Maori and Pasifika populations -- which overseas studies don't capture very well.

He says they can only do those studies here and see if those populations are affected by certain tumours or respond better to certain treatments or not.
