The return of veteran All Blacks playmaker Beauden Barrett is being felt at the Blues as they plot their defence of the Super Rugby Pacific title

The first-five jumper will be hotly contested at the Auckland-based club, with fellow internationals Stephen Perofeta and Harry Plummer also options at 10.

Barrett missed last year's title-winning run while on sabbatical in Japan.

Cotter says the 2015 World Cup winner has come with an open mind, wanting to understand what made last year a success.
