Environment Canterbury is expecting to hear soon, whether it will be allowed to reinstate bike racks on buses during the day

Environment Canterbury is expecting to hear soon, whether it will be allowed to reinstate bike racks on buses during the day

Councils across the country restricted bike rack use in November.

It followed safety concerns from NZTA and the Bus and Coach Association about headlight obstruction.

Late last year ECan requested an exemption, formally asking bike racks be returned during daylight hours until a permanent solution was found.

The request was supported by five other councils including Bay of Plenty and Otago Regional Councils.
