Dame Maggie Smith was remembered at the EE BAFTA Awards on Sunday (16.02.25) evening

The legendary actress passed away in September 2024 at the age of 89, and a clip from her famed portrayal of Professor McGonagall in the 'Harry Potter' film series closed out the in-memoriam segment of the annual ceremony

Some of the other biggest stars who received a tribute during the British Academy Film Awards included 'Star Wars' actor James Earl Jones - who died just weeks before Maggie at the age of 91 - almost 50 years after he cemented his place in history as the voice of Darth Vader.

Speaking live on stage at the Royal Festival Hall in London host David Tennant said: "Over this last year, we have sadly left friends and colleagues from the industry, people who hae left an indelible mark for future generations od film fans to bear witness

"Let's take a moment to remember those members of our film family no long er with us."

'Wicked' star Jeff Goldblum gave an emotional rendition of 'As Time Goes By' on the piano as the tributes played, and David later described it as "emotional and heartfelt" as the audience cheered.

Meanwhile, 'The Shining' star Shelley Duvall - who passed away last July at the age of 74 - was also remembered, as was 'Mulholland Drive' director David Lynch, just weeks after his death at the age of 78.

Other stars who made it into the tribute included Donald Sutherland, Kris Kristofferson, Gena Rowlands, and '101 Dalmatians' actress Dame Joan Plowright - who passed away exactly a month ago at the age of 95 - also received tributes as part of the in-memoriam segment.
