Several key central North Island highways remain closed after severe weather

Slips have closed State Highway 3 from Mokau to Piopio, State Highway 4 and 43 north and east of Taumaranui, and State Highway 31 to Kawhia.

Flooding has closed State Highway 30 between Te Kuiti and Benneydale.

Rain has eased and weather warnings have been lifted, but Taumarunui-Ohura local board member Sophie Stockbridge says there's still quite a bit of flooding.

She says Taumaranui is virtually cut off, as most roads into town are underwater.
