Hopes the community will prevail at Australian memorial events, a week on from the Bondi Beach terror attack

15 people were killed last Sunday, after two gunman opened fire at a Sydney Hanukkah celebration.

Flags will fly at half mast, candles will be put in front windows and a minutes silence observed at 8.47pm New Zealand time.

Our Australian correspondent Murray Olds, says he thinks politics will be put on the back burner for today, after a dreadful week.

He says there will be commemorations around the country, but the main focus will be Bondi.
