| | | PC World - 15 Aug (PC World)I’ve been wearing Shokz headphones for the better part of a decade now, and I’m seeing them a lot more on people out and about. Bone conduction, which vibrates the bones in your head to let you listen to audio without plugging up your ears, is fantastic. Today, my favorite top-of-the-line Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 is $50 off at Best Buy.
Specifically, the Best Buy-exclusive blue-on-gray colorway is $50 off retail, bringing the price down to $129.99. Unfortunately, the other colors (including the snazzy orange one) aren’t discounted. But I’ve actually bought this blue set—that’s mine, in the photo up there!—and I appreciate that it doesn’t come with any Best Buy branding.
It helps that these things are just fantastic. They’re a huge improvement on the OpenMove that I previously used for years, with better sound clarity and bass and a 12-hour battery life without sacrificing easy USB-C recharging. They’ve got some basic water and sweat protection—I’ve dunked them in the Delaware River on my kayaking trips more than once with no issues—so they’re perfect for all kinds of workouts. I wear them around town and in the grocery store, allowing me to keep my situational awareness and talk to people without popping out any earbuds.
Open-ear designs aren’t great if you want incredible audio fidelity, so I’d call these “fine” on that front. Just about any full set of cans will beat them for music or intense videos, and they kind of have the opposite of noise cancellation. That means they aren’t great for bus, plane, or subway rides. But thanks to their flexibility, the OpenRun Pro 2 is absolutely what I reach for 90 percent of the time.
