    Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 1330hrs Tuesday 18-Mar-2025 by MetService

    Strong wind advisory for Hauraki Gulf and Bream Head to Cape Colville

    Situation:
    A front moves up the North Island today, followed by an unsettled westerly flow, while a trough covers the South Island. The trough moves northeast through central and northern parts of the country tomorrow, and a ridge of high pressure builds over the South Island. A ridge of high pressure dominates southern and central New Zealand Thursday, while a low northeast of the North Island weakens. The high spreads onto the North Island on Friday, and a front approaches the South Island from the west, becoming slow-moving over the lower South Island on Saturday.

    Forecast issued at 1045hrs Tuesday 18-Mar-2025
    Valid to 1 pm Tuesday for Manukau and Waitemata Harbours, Hauraki Gulf and Bream Head to Cape Colville.

    For Manukau Harbour:
    Tuesday: Northwest 20 knots gusting 30 knots. Turning southwest 20 knots early afternoon, easing to 15 knots this evening. Moderate sea easing this evening, but choppy when wind opposes tide. Cloudy. Poor visibility in periods of rain. For west coast - Westerly swell rising to 3 metres.
    Wednesday: Southwest 15 knots, rising to 20 knots in the morning, easing to southerly 15 knots in the evening. Sea becoming moderate in the morning, easing in the evening. Fine in the morning. Clouds increasing in the afternoon with fair visibility in a few showers. For west coast - Southwest swell 4 metres easing.
    Thursday: Southeast 10 knots. Fine. For west coast - Southwest swell 3 metres easing.
    Friday: Southeast 10 knots, easing to variable 5 knots early. Fine. For west coast - Southwest swell 3 metres easing.
    Saturday: Variable 5 knots, becoming southwest 10 knots early. Fine. For west coast - Southwest swell 1 metre.

    For Waitemata Harbour:
    Tuesday: Northerly 20 knots. Turning southwest 20 knots this afternoon, easing to 15 knots this evening. Moderate sea easing this evening. Cloudy. Poor visibility in periods of rain from midday.
    Wednesday: Southwest 15 knots, rising to 20 knots for a time in the morning and afternoon, easing to southerly 15 knots in the evening. Sea becoming moderate for a time in the morning and afternoon. Fine in the morning. Clouds increasing in the afternoon with fair visibility in a few showers.
    Thursday: Southeast 15 knots. Fine.
    Friday: Southerly 15 knots, turning northeast 10 knots early. Easing to variable 5 knots late. Fine.
    Saturday: Variable 5 knots, becoming southwest 10 knots late. Fine.

    For Hauraki Gulf:
    Tuesday: Northerly 20 knots gusting 30 knots, rising to 25 knots gusting 35 knots for a time early afternoon. Turning southwest 20 knots late afternoon. Sea becoming rough for a time early afternoon. Cloudy. Poor visibility in periods of rain.
    Wednesday: Southwest 20 knots, turning southerly 15 knots in the evening. Moderate sea easing in the evening. Fine in the morning. Clouds increasing in the afternoon with fair visibility in showers.
    Thursday: Southerly 10 knots, rising to southeast 20 knots in the morning. Fine.
    Friday: Southerly 15 knots, turning easterly 10 knots early. Fine.
    Saturday: Easterly 10 knots, easing to variable 5 knots early. Fine.

    For Bream Head to Cape Colville:
    Tuesday: Northerly 20 knots gusting 30 knots, rising to 25 knots gusting 35 knots for a time early afternoon. Turning southwest 20 knots but 25 knots gusting 35 knots about Colville Channel late afternoon. Sea becoming rough for a time early afternoon, easing outside the channel late afternoon. Cloudy. Poor visibility in periods of rain.
    Wednesday: Southwest 20 knots but 25 knots gusting 35 knots about Colville Channel, easing to 15 knots but 20 knots about the channel in the evening. Sea rough about the channel, easing in the evening. Fine in the morning. Clouds increasing in the afternoon with fair visibility in showers.
    Thursday: Southerly 15 knots. Partly cloudy. Easterly swell 1 metre developing.
    Friday: Southerly 15 knots, turning easterly 15 knots early. Fine. Easterly swell 1 metre dying out.
    Saturday: Easterly 10 knots, turning northerly 10 knots later. Fine.
