Being outside of isolation increases the number of diseases and allergens kids come into contact with, raising the risk of asthma attacks.
Asthma hospitalisations have increased 45 percent in the last 20 years.
Maori are twice as likely to be hospitalised because of asthma than non-Maori.
Massey University Professor of Public Health Jeroen Douwes says parents should talk to their school about children's asthma.
Mr Douwes says schools should know the needs of their asthmatic students.
