    north island



    Raukumara to Ruahine National Parks
    Rain developing this afternoon, heavy at times, with thunderstorms possible about the Raukumaras this evening and before dawn tomorrow, then rain clearing everywhere tomorrow morning.

    Remaining North Island mountain areas
    Rain, heavy at times with thunderstorms possible, easing to isolated showers overnight, clearing in the evening.

    WINDS
    Gale northwesterlies, easing but becoming strong for a time late afternoon and evening tomorrow.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    Above 3000 metres.


    south island


    Periods of rain, widespread and heavy, especially west of the main divide. Thunderstorms possible north of Aoraki/Mt. Cook this afternoon. Rain gradually easing overnight to showers west of the divide, and partly cloudy elsewhere.

    WINDS
    Gale northwesterlies, but severe gale in exposed places, easing in the south this afternoon, and elsewhere overnight.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    3000 metres in the north, sloping to 2000 metres in the south, lowering to 1500 metres in the south by tomorrow evening.
