    Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Wednesday 29 June


    north island



    Egmont National Park and the Tararua Range
    Rain, clearing this afternoon then mainly fine.

    Remaining North Island mountain areas
    Cloud increasing. Rain developing about Ruahine and Tongariro National Park this morning, then spreading elsewhere in the evening, but clearing west and south of Whirinaki Forest Parks. Heavy falls possible about Raukumara Forest Park.

    WINDS
    Northwesterlies, dying out this evening.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    About 2200 metres.


    south island



    Kaikoura ranges
    Fine.

    Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes National Parks
    Fine spells and isolated showers.

    The Southern Alps
    Fine in the east. A few showers developing in the west this afternoon, easing and becoming isolated in the evening.

    Fiordland and Mount Aspiring
    Rain developing this morning, with possible thunderstorms and snow to 1000 metres, easing to showers in the afternoon.

    WINDS
    Westerlies, gale in exposed places south of Mt Cook.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    About 1600 metres, rising to 2200 metres in the north this evening.
