    Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Monday 12 April

    north island

    Raukumara Forest park to Te Urewera
    Rain, heavy afternoon and evening falls in the west, possibly thundery tomorrow.

    Remaining North Island mountain areas.
    Isolated showers clearing this evening. Showers developing tomorrow, some possibly heavy north of Ruahine forest park

    Strong northerlies, gale about the Tararuas at times.

    Above 3000 metres.

    south island

    Kahurangi National Park and Nelson Lakes National Park.
    Occasional showers, turning to rain from tomorrow afternoon, with heavy and possibly thundery falls.

    Kaikoura ranges
    Mainly fine, high cloud at times.

    Southern Alps and Fiordland
    Showers, possibly heavy in the west. Clearing Fiordland this afternoon and becoming isolated elsewhere. Heavy rain developing tomorrow, with squally thunderstorms and hail possible.

    Strong northerlies, rising to gale or severe gale tomorrow.

    About 3400 metres sloping to 2600 metres in the south. Lowering to 3000 metres in the north and 2200 metres in the south late tomorrow.
