    Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Tuesday 16 September


    north island



    Tongariro National Park, Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki, Ruahine Forest Park and Tararuas
    Mostly cloudy. Isolated showers, mainly in the west.

    Kaweka to Raukumara Forest Park
    Mainly fine, isolated showers developing around Raukumara by tomorrow afternoon.

    WINDS
    Westerly or southwesterly, gale in exposed places.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    2200 metres.


    south island


    Showers, possibly heavy, but fine for Kaikoura, the eastern Southern Alps and then Nelson Lakes from tomorrow afternoon.

    WINDS
    Strong to gale westerlies, rising to severe gales about the Alps and Mt Aspiring for a time this evening, then everywhere tomorrow evening.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    1600 metres, lifting to 2100 metres tomorrow morning, then to 2800 metres in the north from tomorrow afternoon.
