    Occasional showers, some heavy. Thunderstorms possible this afternoon and evening.

    Remaining North Island Mountain areas
    Showers, some heavy, with thunderstorms possible about and south of Tongariro National Park tomorrow afternoon and evening.

    WINDS
    Gale northerlies, easing tomorrow evening.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    Above 3000 metres.

    Mt Aspiring National Park and the Fiordland Mountains
    Partly cloudy, a few spots of rain this evening. Scattered rain developing tomorrow evening.

    Remaining South Island mountain areas
    Periods of rain, possibly heavy. Possible thunderstorms about the Southern Alps tomorrow afternoon and evening.

    WINDS
    Severe gale northeasterlies, easing from the north this evening, rising to severe gale again north of Mt Cook overnight.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    About 3300 metres, lowering to 2800 metres tomorrow morning.
