Food price inflation's heading back up again with supply costs increasing at an accelerated pace

Food price inflation's heading back up again with supply costs increasing at an accelerated pace

    15 November 2025
Infometrics data reveals an average 2.5 percent uptick in what suppliers charged supermarkets in October compared to a year ago.

Supply constraints are rapidly pushing up beef, lamb and fish prices - but butter prices seem to be cooling.

Chief executive Brad Olsen, says the pressure coming through isn't as broad based as before.

He says not every product's increasing at a rapid pace - but rather a number of much more vital costs to households are continuing to rise.
