Energy Minister Simon Watts says the deal reached by Genesis with other main gentailers - Mercury, Meridian and Contact -- ensures New Zealand's national energy security.
The Commerce Commission says they'll result in a significant public benefit.
Genesis Chief Executive Malcolm Johns says it'll buy us some time to address energy issues.
He says it gives New Zealand another 10 years to solve long-term security concerns around periods of low rainfall and wind.
