    Hopes the new vocational education model kicking in from today will put industry in the driver's seat

    1 January 2026
    Eight Industry Skills Boards are replacing workforce development councils.

    That includes areas like transport, manufacturing, construction, food and fibre and IT.

    Vocational Education Minister Penny Simmonds says the boards will steer the sector.

    She says that will include standards, crafting qualifications and monitoring vocational education providers.
