In the six months to December, Michael Hill's New Zealand operation sales increased by 2.4 percent, its first positive result in over two years.
First Retail Group Managing Director Chris Wilkinson says Michael Hill's a perfect example of a business that's adapted to a tough market.
He says it continues to evolve and the businesses that are struggling, are the ones that don't.
