    Wellington's port firm has been fined half a million dollars over the death of a worker

    Teihi Whaanga died in 2017 after falling off a container at CentrePort and hitting his head on concrete below.

    Whaanga was taken to Wellington Hospital, put in an induced coma, and later died.

    CentrePort been ordered to pay a total of 693-thousand dollars which includes the fine, reparation to the family and other costs.

    The 60-year-old's son, Ben Whaanga, said in a victim impact statement the incident at the port should've never happened, and was unacceptable.
