    Gale warning for Hauraki Gulf and Bream Head to Cape Colville

    Situation:
    A front moves from the South Island onto the North Island today, while a ridge of high pressure moves onto the South Island. On Saturday the front moves away to the east, and a ridge of high pressure builds over New Zealand. A ridge of high pressure dominates northern and central New Zealand. A weak front moves east across the lower South Island early Monday followed by another on Tuesday.

    Forecast issued at 1116hrs Friday 09-May-2025
    Valid to 1 pm Friday for Manukau and Waitemata Harbours, Hauraki Gulf and Bream Head to Cape Colville.

    For Manukau Harbour:
    Friday: Northerly 20 knots gusting 30 knots, changing to northwest 15 knots this afternoon. Turning southwest 15 knots this evening. Moderate sea easing this afternoon. Poor visibility in rain, heavy at times, clearing this evening. Possible afternoon thunderstorms. For west coast - Southwest swell 2 metres, rising to 3 metres.
    Saturday: Southwest 15 knots, becoming southerly 10 knots in the evening. Sea slight. Fine apart from some morning cloud. For west coast - Southwest swell 3 metres.
    Sunday: Southerly 10 knots, turning easterly 10 knots in the evening. Fine. For west coast - Southwest swell 3 metres easing.
    Monday: Southeast 10 knots, easing to variable 5 knots later. Fine. For west coast - Southwest swell rising to 3 metres.
    Tuesday: Variable 5 knots, becoming southwest 10 knots early. Cloud clearing and becoming fine. For west coast - Southwest swell 3 metres easing.

    For Waitemata Harbour:
    Friday: Northeast 20 knots gusting 30 knots, changing northwest 20 knots gusting 30 knots early evening. Changing southwest 15 knots late evening. Moderate sea easing late evening. Poor visibility in rain, heavy at times, clearing this evening. Possible afternoon thunderstorms.
    Saturday: Southwest 15 knots, becoming southerly 10 knots in the evening. Sea slight. Fine apart from some morning cloud.
    Sunday: Southerly 10 knots. Fine.
    Monday: Southerly 10 knots. Fine.
    Tuesday: Southwest 10 knots. Partly cloudy.

    For Hauraki Gulf:
    Friday: Northeast 35 knots gusting 50 knots, changing to northwest 15 knots early evening. Turning southwest 20 knots gusting 30 knots late evening. Very rough sea easing early evening. Poor visibility in rain, heavy at times, clearing this evening. Possible afternoon thunderstorms. Northerly swell 1 metre developing.
    Saturday: Southwest 20 knots gusting 30 knots, becoming southerly 15 knots in the evening. Moderate sea easing. Fine apart from some morning cloud. Northerly swell 1 metre, easing.
    Sunday: Southerly 15 knots, turning easterly 10 knots in the afternoon. Fine.
    Monday: Southeast 15 knots. Fine.
    Tuesday: Southerly 10 knots. Partly cloudy.

    For Bream Head to Cape Colville:
    Friday: Northeast 35 knots gusting 50 knots, changing to northwest 15 knots early evening. Turning southwest 20 knots gusting 30 knots late evening. Very rough sea easing early evening. Poor visibility in rain, heavy at times, clearing this evening. Possible afternoon thunderstorms. Northeast swell 1 metre rising to 3 metres.
    Saturday: Southwest 20 knots gusting 30 knots, rising to 25 knots gusting 35 knots about Colville Channel for a time in the morning and afternoon. Becoming southerly 15 knots but 20 knots gusting 30 knots about Colville Channel in the evening. Sea becoming rough for a time in the morning and afternoon about Colville Channel. Fine apart from some morning cloud. Northeast swell 3 metres, easing to 1 metre.
    Sunday: Southerly 20 knots, turning easterly 15 knots in the evening. Fine. Easterly swell 1 metre.
    Monday: Southeast 15 knots. Partly cloudy. Easterly swell 1 metre.
    Tuesday: Southeast 10 knots, turning southwest 10 knots early. Partly cloudy. Easterly swell 1 metre.
