    Recreational Marine: Christchurch
Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 1641hrs Sunday 21-Dec-2025 by MetService

    Situation:
Cold, showery southwesterlies ease over NZ as a ridge of high pressure moves east over the country from the Tasman Sea. On Monday, a front from the Tasman moves across central and northern areas of the North Island while a second, more active, front affects southern New Zealand. The second front moves to the North Island on Tuesday, becoming slow-moving. A westerly flow covers New Zealand on Christmas Eve with embedded fronts affecting the North Island, and southern and western parts of the South Island. A small, deep low may pass over the far south of the South Island. On Christmas morning, a departing front may affect Northland. Another, more active front moves northwards over the South Island, bringing brief heavy rain to Fiordland and the ranges of Westland before becoming slow-moving about the north of the South Island later on Christmas Day.
