Recreational Marine: Christchurch Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 1028hrs Tuesday 27-Jan-2026 by MetService Situation: A southwest flow over New Zealand weakens today as a ridge of high pressure spreads over the country from the west. The ridge moves onto the North Island tomorrow and a northwest flow develops over the South Island as a front approaches southern New Zealand. A weakening front moves northeast over the South Island on Thursday, while a ridge covers the North Island. A ridge of high pressure covers the country on Friday and Saturday. Forecast for Inshore waters from Lyttelton Harbour to the Waimakariri River mouth Nil warnings Tuesday: Southwest 20 knots, easing to 10 knots this afternoon before easing to variable 5 knots in the evening. Moderate sea easing. Fine spells. Wednesday: Variable 5 knots. Northeast 15 knots developing in the morning, then rising to 20 knots in the afternoon before easing to variable 5 knots in the evening. Sea becoming moderate for a time in the afternoon and evening. Morning cloud otherwise fine. Thursday: Variable 5 knots, becoming westerly 15 knots for a time in the morning and afternoon.
