Meanwhile, showery westerlies continue in the far south, while a moist northeasterly flow develops over northern New Zealand, followed by an approaching front. On Thursday, a front moves southeastwards over northern and central New Zealand bringing heavy rain and strong northeast winds to many regions. On Friday, the front moves east of the country. On Saturday, a low in the Tasman Sea moves onto the North Island while a weak ridge moves onto southern New Zealand.
