    Recreational Marine: Kapiti
    Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 1606hrs Friday 23-Jan-2026 by MetService

    Situation:
    A slow moving low lies to the southeast of the country, with unstable westerlies covering much of New Zealand. A front followed by southerlies moves up the east of the South Island and the lower North Island tomorrow. Sunday, a cool showery southwest flow persists over the country. A high slowly builds across New Zealand from Monday, blanketing the country by the end of Tuesday. A northwest flow strengthens over the lower South Island late on Wednesday.

    Forecast for Inshore waters from Waitarere to Pukerua Bay and out to Kapiti Island

    Friday: Northwest 20 knots gusting 30 knots. Sea moderate. Mostly cloudy. Poor visibility in showers from afternoon. Northwest swell half a metre rising to 1.5 metres.
    Saturday: Northwest 20 knots gusting 30 knots, rising to 25 knots gusting 35 knots early morning, then changing southwest 40 knots gusting 50 knots mid morning. Easing to southwest 25 knots gusting 35 knots about midday, then to 15 knots in the afternoon, and to variable 5 knots in the evening. Sea becoming very rough for a time in the morning. Poor visibility in rain, heavy at times. Possible morning thunderstorms. Northwest swell 1.5 metres rising to 3 metres.
    Sunday: Variable 5 knots. Northeast 10 knots developing early morning, then changing northwest 20 knots late morning. Easing to variable 5 knots in the evening. A few showers. Northwest swell 3 metres easing.
    Monday: Variable 5 knots, becoming northwest 20 knots early. Partly cloudy. Northwest swell 2 metres dying out.
    Tuesday: Northwest 15 knots, becoming northeast 10 knots early. Turning southeast 10 knots late. Showers clearing. Westerly swell 1 metre developing.
