    Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 1634hrs Monday 20-Oct-2025 by MetService

    Situation:
    An active front, preceded by strong northwesterlies, moves northeast up the South Island today and onto the central North Island later tomorrow. It is followed by showery westerlies that affect the western and southern areas of the South Island. On Wednesday, showery west to northwesterlies affect much of New Zealand. An active front approaches the western areas of the South Island from the Tasman Sea late in the day. On Thursday this front moves across southern and central New Zealand, preceded by heavy rain and gale northwesterlies. An associated deep low then moves south of New Zealand with a period of gale southwesterlies over the far south. On Friday, the low and associated front pass to the east with a brief ridge moving across central and northern New Zealand, while another front moves across the lower South Island.

    Forecast for Inshore waters from Pukerua Bay to Makara Beach

    * Gale warning in force *

    Monday: Northwest 35 knots gusting 45 knots. Sea very rough. Cloudy. Poor visibility in evening showers.
    Tuesday: Northwest 35 knots gusting 45 knots, rising to 40 knots gusting 50 knots in the morning, then easing to 30 knots gusting 40 knots late evening. Very rough sea easing late evening. Poor visibility in morning and afternoon rain. Northwest swell 3 metres developing.
    Wednesday: Northwest 30 knots, easing to 25 knots in the morning. Partly cloudy. Northwest swell rising to 2 metres.
    Thursday: Northwest 30 knots, easing to westerly 20 knots late. Low cloud and drizzle, turning showers. Northwest swell easing, then rising to 3 metres.
    Friday: Northwest 20 knots. Fine. Northwest swell 3 metres easing.

    Tuesday 1047 1.7 metres
