    Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 2030hrs Tuesday 01-Jul-2025 by MetService

    Situation:
    A large ridge of high pressure covers most of the country today, and weakens over central and southern New Zealand tomorrow. Meanwhile, showery westerlies continue in the far south, while a moist northeasterly flow develops over northern New Zealand, followed by an approaching front. On Thursday, a front moves southeastwards over northern and central New Zealand bringing heavy rain and strong northeast winds to many regions. On Friday, the front moves east of the country. On Saturday, a low in the Tasman Sea moves onto the North Island while a weak ridge moves onto southern New Zealand.

    Valid to 8 pm Tuesday for Wellington Harbour and the south coast from Sinclair Head to Baring Head.
    Tuesday: Variable 5 knots. Northerly 10 knots developing late evening. Sea slight. Mainly fine. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 1 metre. For Castlepoint - Southeast swell 2 metres easing to 1.5 metres.
    Wednesday: Northerly 10 knots, rising to 15 knots about the south coast for a time in the afternoon and evening. Sea slight. Partly cloudy. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 1 metre. For Castlepoint - Southerly swell 1.5 metres rising to 2 metres.

    Outlook until midnight Saturday:
    Thursday: Northerly 10 knots, turning easterly 10 knots in the morning. Rain
    developing. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 1
    metre. For Castlepoint - Easterly swell 2 metres rising to 3 metres.
    Friday: Easing to variable 5 knots early. Becoming northerly 15 knots in the
    morning. Partly cloudy. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay -
    Southerly swell 1 metre dying out. For Castlepoint - Easterly swell
    easing to 2 metres.
    Saturday: Northerly 10 knots, changing southerly 20 knots early. Showers. For
    the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 2 metres
    developing. For Castlepoint - Easterly swell 2 metres dying out.
    Southerly swell 2 metres developing.
